We are very pleased to introduce Samaanta’s 9th cohort.
Every year, Samaanta Foundation goes through a rigorous selection process in order to select deserving meritorious students from disadvantaged backgrounds to receive comprehensive higher education fellowships.
The pandemic has forced us to plan differently to execute our selection process this year. After many levels of meetings and consultations, we have finally been able to start our selection process, even though the school education exams (SEE) have been cancelled. The selection process started in July, and we interviewed 72 recommended students from 35 schools across 7 districts as a part of this year’s recruitment process. Many thanks to our own fellows, Teach For Nepal fellows, and teachers for their support with selections during this difficult year when we had to conduct many interviews remotely.
Every year during selections, we have to make some agonizing decisions and end up in the unfortunate position of not being able to reward so many other talented and deserving students, but we wanted to thank all students who applied, and wish them the best in their future endeavors.
After this comprehensive process, we are delighted to introduce our 11 fellows (8 of whom are girls!) who have been selected as a part of our largest cohort ever this year. Each of these fellows impressed us with their academic performance, incredible resilience, and potential for and commitment to service, leadership, and growth. We will introduce each of these fellows to you in the coming weeks.
We welcome the 9th cohort to the growing Samaanta family. Unfortunately, we are not able to welcome our new fellows in person anytime soon, but we are committed to supporting our fellows through what is going to be a difficult academic year.
We did organize a virtual orientation for our new fellows and parents. Further, we are now working to figure out college placements, and remote learning.
