“From being the first girl in my Tamang community to pass the SLC with distinction, to gaining confidence and independence through Samaanta’s life-changing Fellowship opportunity, I have witnessed the firsthand power of education and mentorship. Now, with the Anthony Lunch Memorial Scholarship, I am one step closer to achieving my dream of driving meaningful change through an MBA in non-profit management at King’s College.”

Growing up in a small Tamang community in the southern part of Lalitpur, I was the first girl from my community to pass the SLC with distinction. Before Samaanta’s intervention, I had very little knowledge about post-secondary education, or the professional world. I was just like a little bird with a wings who does not know how to fly and where to go.

In 2015, fortunately I got selected as a forth cohort Fellow of Samaanta after competing in various steps of selection processes including writing, group discussion and interviews. From 2015 to 2022, Samaanta’s comprehensive support, guidance, mentorship and networking were invaluable in my development from a shy and uncertain girl into an optimistic and independent individual with a solid educational foundation. During the Fellowship, my engagement from monthly workshops especially book club, reflection sessions, computer classes, english classes under Samaanta’s comprehensive Fellowship to co-leading various programs within Samaanta to working in various roles across different other organizations, helped me “learn to fly” toward achieving my dream of becoming independent.

Samaanta has been a life-changing opportunity for me and has become an invaluable companion in my transformative journey. Experiencing firsthand how a non-profit like Samaanta can change lives has profoundly inspired me. This journey has demonstrated the powerful impact that support in education and empowerment can have, and it has ignited my passion to contribute to the non-profit sector, where I aim to drive meaningful change.

Furthermore, having completed my Bachelor of Business Administration with a specialization in Finance and worked in various roles across NGOs, I have gained valuable insights into the operational and strategic aspects of non-profit organizations. My experiences with organizations such as Sharing a Smile and Canopy Nepal have deepened my understanding of the challenges and opportunities within the non-profit sector. These experiences have reinforced my commitment to pursuing a career in this field, where I aim to drive impactful initiatives and contribute to sustainable development.

As a result, I concluded that pursuing an MBA in non-profit management would bring me closer to my vision of driving impactful initiatives and contributing to sustainable development. Joining the MBA in Non-Profit Management at King’s College became my mid-term goal, and I’ve been working toward it, actively seeking the right time and opportunity.
I would like to thank my schoolteacher, Mr. Prabin Niraula, a Teach for Nepal fellow alumnus, and the Samaanta Foundation for informing and encouraging me to apply for the Anthony Lunch Memorial Scholarship for Postgraduate Studies in Nepal. I applied and was delighted to be selected. With this scholarship, I am now one step closer to achieving my academic and professional aspirations.
