Mandira Tamang

Twelfth Cohort

Mandira hails from the village of Wafal in the Sindhupalchowk district. When she was seven years old, her parents relocated to Sukute. They rented a small piece of land, where they constructed a single-room tin house to call their home. The family of four shares this cramped quarters, which includes a kitchen area. Mandira’s parents both engage in labour work, and their source of income is highly unstable. Mandira has a younger sister who is currently in the 5th grade at Shree Sukute Secondary School.

Despite her family’s challenging circumstances, she has consistently been the smartest and brightest student in her class. However, several factors put her at risk of dropping out of school. Given her family’s financial situation, it is extremely difficult for her parents to afford higher education. Furthermore, the nearest high school is located in Khadichaur, which is approximately 30 minutes away from their home.

Currently, Mandira is enrolled at Nepal Mega College in BijuliBazaar, Kathmandu, after joining the Samaanta Foundation as a 12th Cohort Fellow. She is pursuing higher education in the field of Science. Mandira is an exceptionally bright student who possesses the capability to reflect upon and critically analyze various topics.
