Sanumaya Lama (Bachelors in Bussiness Administration, King's College)

Sixth Cohort

My name is Sanu Maya and I come from Lalitpur, where my family of five is living in temporary shelter. My mother works at an ice cream factory, my father is working in Saudi Arabia, dai is a driver, and bhauju is a teacher at Jyotidaya Cooperative School, where I completed my SEE from. I completed my +2 in Management from Pentagon International College and currently studying BBA at King’s College.

I remember the process of being selected for Samaanta very well. I had just left my house to go to my local college to know about the scholarships to study there. On the way home, I received a call from Samaanta and got to know I received the fellowship.

I am very passionate about technology. When I was younger, I knew very little about technology. In school, we had books to teach us about computers but we rarely saw computer labs. In later years, my teachers would tell us to open Facebook accounts. My parents thought it was a bad thing to use Facebook. After I joined Samaanta, I opened my first email account and learned how to use other services like Viber. I learned a lot about the importance and significance of technology in my first year as a Samaanta fellow.

Since my family only lives 1.5hr away from Kathmandu, I wasn’t very culture shocked when I moved here. But it was a bit difficult to be away from home. When I have free time, I look up tutorials on youtube and try to do learn new things. I like to also teach myself dance and practice for quizzes and write poetry.
