 YUWA

Established in 2009, YUWA is a registered not-for-profit, purely youth-run and led organization working to promote youth participation through empowerment and advocacy. YUWA was born out of a group of committed youths, unofficially working in this sector since 2005. The initial focus was to develop the leadership skills of the involved youths, to train as youth activists and to advocate for change, thus resulting in a wide and diverse array of knowledge, skills and experience in this sector. It led to the realization of the seriousness of youth issues and the need to act, which, finally took the shape of YUWA.

Intersectional Insights

Intersectional Insight is a collective dedicated to amplifying the voices and advocacy of young Indigenous women. It provides a curated space that fosters meaningful dialogues, strengthens activism, and supports young women’s participation in decision-making spaces. The collective centres its work on understanding and addressing the interconnected nature of social identities and inequalities.

Recently, we launched a workshop titled Rhymes and Reasons: Indigenous Girls Write and Publish, designed to empower young Indigenous girls through training in critical thinking and storytelling. This initiative celebrates their rich history, cultural heritage, and community while highlighting the systemic challenges they face and the resilience they demonstrate.
